올해 13세인 멜리사 베네마는 네델란드에서 태어나, 어려서부터 관악기를
좋아해 6세 때 처음 리코더를 불기 시작해서 8세 때 트럼펫으로 바꾸었다. 
9세 때 교회에서 독주를 시작해서,  현재 여러 오케스트라에서 활발한
연주 활동을 하며 2007년 데뷰 음반 'Melissa voor U' 를 발표했다.

2008년 크리스티나 콩쿨에서 우승했고, 마스트리히트에서 앙드레 류, 
요한 슈트라우스 오케스트라와 협연에서 이 곡 Il Silenzio을 연주하여,
엄청난 기립박수를 받으면서 많은이들을 감동시켰다.
