A medical research confirmed that postmenopausal women suffer greater risks of endometrial cancer with excessive intake of sodas, the Telegraph reported on Friday.
The research highlighted that women who drink excessive amounts of sugary sodas had 78 percent higher risk of endometrial cancer than those who don’t.
The research was based on studying 23,000 postmenopausal women living in Iowa in their 60s to 70s who were monitored from 1986 to 2010. It was funded by the U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI) and conducted by Maki Inoue-Choi, a research associate at the University of Minnesota’s School of Public Health.
"Other studies have shown increasing consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages has paralleled the increase in obesity," said Inoue-Choi.
"Obese women tend to have higher levels of estrogens and insulin than women of normal weight, [and] increased levels of estrogens and insulin are established risk factors for endometrial cancer."
Inoue-Choi added that cookies, cakes, high carbohydrate foods and non-sugared sodas have no direct influence on raising the risks of endometrial cancer.
The research was published online Friday in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention.

이번 연구결과는 미국암학회(AACR)가 발행하는 '국제학술지 암 역학 생물표지 및 예방' 최신호 온라인판에 실렸다.
