Singer Roy Kim, 21, donated 30 million won to the Yu Jae-ha Music Scholarship Foundation in July, sources said Tuesday.
The foundation encountered difficulty hosting the Yoo Jae-ha Music Concours, which was to be held earlier this year, when sponsors stopped support for the recital that was intended to pay tribute to the late singer (1962-87).
With the help of Kim’s donation, the concours will take place Sunday.
Foundation staffers told media outlets that Kim’s contribution was the first private donation it has received, and that the money has helped the foundation ride out tough times.
Kim returned to the U.S. in August to resume his studies at Georgetown University, where he had initially deferred enrollment to take part in “Super Star K4.”
